Shadow Heroes Designing a disruptive learning experience

The Problem

Shadow Heroes are a disruptive translation collective. They deliver translation experiences which challenge the world view of young people. Using a ‘show, don’t tell’ approach, their workshops teach young people to think differently.

Our Approach

As a brand, Shadow Heroes has elements of the Sage, the Outlaw and the Explorer. They
  • Challenge the status quo
  • Venture beyond accepted ways
  • Discover truth first-hand
We chose a topic that put them at the centre of the activity of translation. They would go through an experience in which they discover that their most powerful tool as a translator is already within them – their instinct.

We designed a workshop in which they would translate a poem from an unknown language using their instinct and minimal guidance. All in the span of two hours.

We structured a workshop with carefully curated strategic beats to allow the students to have bursts of understanding leading to a final epiphany.

We used a Priming  Revelation  Experience loop to curate the ‘revelations’ for them by degrees.

What others are saying

“Inspiring and practical. Students left the room feeling more confident and I believe this workshop has given them the courage to attempt to understand texts or media without necessarily understanding every single word.”

J Gomez, Channing School

“Working with Naima was a breath of fresh air. She is creative, reliable, and straightforward. I would recommend it without any hesitation.”

Gitanjali Patel, Shadow Heroes
